Deans List 2024-2025 Western Law
Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knows the usual average to make Dean's List in 3L at Western Law? I received an average of 82.3 if that helps. Thanks in advance! -

Accepted 2025- Windsor
Received an A to the dual JD on April 16 via email. Accepted provisionally as I am still hoping to receive an A for the Single JD which I got WL for today. 2.88 GPA/ 3.77 L2, 157 LSAT. 4 years experience as a law clerk in civil and criminal litigation, great reference, first cycle applying. -

Waitlist 2025
Checked the portal today and saw that I was waitlisted for the single JD. No email. Got an offer for the Dual JD in April and accepted provisionally and paid deposit. Hoping to hear back about the single JD before July 1 when my provisional acceptance to the dual becomes firm. Will be choosing the single JD if I get an offer. 2.88 GPA/ 3.77 L2, 157 LSAT. 4 years experience as a law clerk in civil and criminal litigation, great reference, first cycle applying. -

Very likely for Osgoode as long as you write a decent PS. UofT will depend on your B3 GPA. 3.85+ and you have good chances. -

Criminal Defence Articling Student Survival Tips
Thank you for sharing this with me. Really solid guidance and much appreciated. I've been digging into the annotations under s. 276 and 278 in Martin’s and I’ve also got access to The Practitioner’s Criminal Precedents, but I hadn’t yet gone deep into the s. 276/278 materials, I'll make that my next stop. I’ve seen Prosecuting and Defending Sexual Offence Cases referenced before but haven’t had the chance to read it yet; thanks for the link, I’ll track it down through the library. -

Criminal Defence Articling Student Survival Tips
@Stugglesarereal Criminal Notebook is another resource. It's maintained by a senior Crown prosecutor, but it's not always 100% up to date. Still, it's a great secondary source. The Emond books are good, too. Honestly, the best place to get precedents is your network. Hopefully, you're on the Criminal Lawyers' Association listserv or your provincial equivalent. If there's a few active, senior lawyers that are pretty involved and helpful, shoot them an e-mail and explain you're a first year and need help drafting the materials. If you've done your homework, you know what needs to go in them generally, but you lack the finesse to decide what goes in/out without prejudicing your client. I've never reached out to a criminal lawyer who wasn't happy to help and flip a few redacted materials my way. Most have given me 30 minutes to an hour of their time to hash out ideas. I've also (shamelessly) reached out to senior criminal counsel in my surrounding area, and have - in the past - gone so far as to reach out to legal aid's appeal division for advice. Basically everyone understands (1) you're junior, (2) sexual assault applications are a nightmare, and (3) you're terrified of fucking up. But word to the wise: Do your homework first. Don't be that lawyer that e-mails the listserv absurdly basic questions, or has questions that can be answered with 10 minutes of research. It's a fantastic resource if used properly, or a hellish experience as we watch incompetence play out in real time. For example, don't ask if it's fine to help your client vacate a warrant if they've expressly told you they have no intention of returning to the jurisdiction to deal with the charge nor do they intend to transfer it to where they're now living (real question).- 1
