Your stats sound great too and I'm sure you'll be successful as well! Hopefully we will be sharing a class this time next year 🙂 I know a lot of people voice anxiety about how holistic UCalgary is with admissions which translates to being unpredictable, but it's part of why it's my first pick - it's for sure to my advantage, but I'm also keen to be in a diverse group of other students.- 1

Nice! I'm at a 3.95 last 60 credits and 3.6ish overall; TBD on LSAT score but I'll update once I've got it. I was hitting practice tests around 164-167 consistently then had a 169 on the last PT before I wrote, but writing it felt terrible so I'm expecting low 160s but we will see! I am also applying in my mid-30s with a graduate degree. -

cGPA 3.5 LSAT 161 Access?
Hello I am looking to go anywhere in Ontario or Dal. I had a life threatening illness in second year which tanked my GPA I have good EC's and recommendation letters along with work history. Please let me know 1) where you think I have a shot of acceptance and 2) if I should be using access category? Many thanks in advance! -

Hello, I am in my fourth year of undergrad, during second year I had a life threatening autoimmune disease develop I was in hospital multiple times each week, was sick always and had surgeries during school. As a result my grades really slipped. I had a 4.0 in first year and finished second year with a 3.3 I have been working hard and should graduate with a 3.5-3.6 I have good volunteer and work experience to put onto my application. I also scored 161 on my LSAT I am looking to apply everywhere in ontario except for lakehead as well as dal. Should I be using the access category and do I have a real chance at getting accepted anywhere? Any input would be really appreciated! -

I thought I would get this post started for those of us who have applied or will be applying to UCalgary for 2025. I've just submitted my application and wrote the September LSAT on Wednesday. UCalgary is my top pick, so I was eager to get my application in ASAP. I'm also going to be applying for UVic which is a close second for me. I am on the fence for various reasons about whether I will be doing applications for Dalhousie, Osgoode, or Lincoln Alexander but those are the other schools I am considering. Good luck everyone! -

Personal Statement- low cGPA
I don't know if you are planning on applying directly out of law school, but a narrative about having improved executive skills and being ready for law school becomes more compelling after a couple of years of work experience. Even when there are circumstances that impact grades, schools need to be convinced that the applicant would have succeeded without those circumstances. I would focus on writing as a strong of a statement as you can, and to possibly make the point that those difficult circumstances made you emotionally prepared for difficult times as a law student and lawyer. -

Personal Statement- low cGPA
Without intending to trivialize the other issues you allude to, I would absolutely advise against using the fact that you had to work part-time as an excuse/justification for poor grades. Part-time work during undergrad (whether out of financial need or otherwise) is incredibly common and not an exceptional circumstance at all, and I could see this rubbing people in adcomm the wrong way because that's the effect it has on me at least.- 2

Personal Statement- low cGPA
I have a low cGPA due to financial difficulties (I worked part time throughout undergrad ) and family issues (unstable home environment, dysfunctional family). I went to a local university as a commuter and couldn’t afford to move out. I’m not sure how I should discuss this in my personal statement. I’m also not sure how much detail I should share. Although my cGPA is low (3.15), there is an upward trend as my L2 and B2 are higher than my cGPA. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks! -

Big Toronto firm, we are officially 3 days a week. Not enforced/tracked for the lawyers. -

Work From Home (WFH) or Hybrid Policy?
In-house. Hybrid. 3 days per week in office. Not enforced and I doubt they ever do so. Most lawyers come in 2x per week. Some almost never. Groups other than the Legal Department do tend to strictly enforce it though, from what I can tell.
