UBC mark drops
It all depends on the credits. If you have at, or more than, 90 credits, you will have 12 lowest credits dropped. If you are less than 90 credits, you will have 6 lowest credits dropped. Assessed on completed credits at the time of application. -

Asking for a Raise
The truth is, if asking for a really big raise, I've always just found it easier to change jobs. Judging by the amount of movement in this profession, I would say this is not an uncommon sentiment. I am not so sure 15k hits that threshold, in particular when so junior that most employers should expect a decent upward curve as one's year of call gets more senior, but it is getting there. -

How marketable am I to NYC firms if I have already passed the NYC Bar?
It moves the needle as they don't need to send you on (usually paid) bar leave. -

UBC mark drops
Does anyone when UBC drops 2 courses and when they drop 4 courses. If I apply in my third year and my degree is four years, so will my 4 lowest courses be dropped or two? Thanks 🙂 -

My Career office informed me that they don’t handle the Ottawa recruit, and asked me to reach out the specific firms to see the status of my application or when I can expect to receive correspondence from them. Have you received any calls yet from any of those firms? -

Ask an Upper Year
It's hard to compare "how easy it is to get a B+ or higher?" from one law school to another. Regardless, I would not recommend basing your decision on which law school to attend based on how easy it is to get good grades at the particular schools you are looking at. Generally speaking, the most important consideration you should have when deciding on a law school is whether or not you would like to live and work in that city/province following law school. It's by no means the only consideration you should have, but it is the main one. As for your other question about the 1L recruitment process, the most significant factors, in my opinion, would equally be each of the following: 1L grades You will only have one semester worth of law school grades when you apply in the 1L recruit so they don't have much to go off of. Try to get at least a B average, but the higher the better. Undergraduate grades Since you have very little law school grades to look at in 1L recruit, they will also be looking at your undergraduate grades. Presumably, they will be good since you already got into law school, but just know that they 100% look at them in the 1L recruit. Networking/connections Should be obvious but it's worth stressing how networking and/or prior connections can help you get a foot in the door. How well you interview/how much you prepared for the interviews I would argue that your grades get you the interview and then they don't do much after that. Once you are interviewing, they are really trying to get to know you and figure out: (1) What brought you to law school and why you want to be a lawyer, (2) Why you want to work at their firm specifically as opposed to other firms, (3) Are there any areas of law that you are particularly interested in, and (4) Are you weird/will they be comfortable working with you and having you around clients. Luck I do believe there is always a bit of luck involved as there are way more applicants than available positions, so don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get a position in the 1L recruit. -

Thanks for the advice, I took my lsat last week though, however before I did the official test I did do 2 more PTs after the ones listed here and got a 171 and a 175- 1

What are my chances at any Ontario school (not UofT). Considering applying to Usask and UNB. My degree is in bio and I have a master's. Decent softs but nothing exceptional Thanks -

Ottawa 2L recruit 2025
My career office told us that firms could call anytime between the 22nd (today) and February 7th. If your school is doing OCIs with any of the firms you applied to, then there will probably be a specific date your career office will let you know about that. -

Has anyone heard back from the bigger firms in Ottawa like BLG, Fasken, McMillan, Norton etc? Also, does anyone have an idea of what the timeline is supposed to look like for Ottawa OCIs? My career office is kinda useless. -
