Associate layoffs?
Not specifically at the associate level, but I noticed on viLaw Portal that there are currently 58 employers listed as looking for articling students in Toronto for 2026. UltraVires numbers for this time last year showed 52 employers offering articling positions, so slightly more than last year. Some of the names on the list are small/sole practitioner firms, but other firms looking for articling students include: Davies, Dentons, Shibley Righton, Torkin Manes, Teplitsky, so some BigLaw/Bay Street firms as well. Not sure, but I would have thought that the first place a hiring/employment problem would appear would be in student hiring? -

Deans List 2024-2025 Western Law
Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knows the usual average to make Dean's List in 3L at Western Law? I received an average of 82.3 if that helps. Thanks in advance! -

Received an A to the dual JD on April 16 via email. Accepted provisionally as I am still hoping to receive an A for the Single JD which I got WL for today. 2.88 GPA/ 3.77 L2, 157 LSAT. 4 years experience as a law clerk in civil and criminal litigation, great reference, first cycle applying. -

Waitlist 2025
Checked the portal today and saw that I was waitlisted for the single JD. No email. Got an offer for the Dual JD in April and accepted provisionally and paid deposit. Hoping to hear back about the single JD before July 1 when my provisional acceptance to the dual becomes firm. Will be choosing the single JD if I get an offer. 2.88 GPA/ 3.77 L2, 157 LSAT. 4 years experience as a law clerk in civil and criminal litigation, great reference, first cycle applying. -

Very likely for Osgoode as long as you write a decent PS. UofT will depend on your B3 GPA. 3.85+ and you have good chances. -

Commerce undergrad My GPA is.a 3.8/4.3 on the Queen's U 4.3 scale. I'm pretty sure this would be around a 3.75 on the OLSAS scale. I have tons of extracurriculars and leadership experience -

Criminal Defence Articling Student Survival Tips
Thank you for sharing this with me. Really solid guidance and much appreciated. I've been digging into the annotations under s. 276 and 278 in Martin’s and I’ve also got access to The Practitioner’s Criminal Precedents, but I hadn’t yet gone deep into the s. 276/278 materials, I'll make that my next stop. I’ve seen Prosecuting and Defending Sexual Offence Cases referenced before but haven’t had the chance to read it yet; thanks for the link, I’ll track it down through the library.
