2L Transfer Inquiry
A B+ average is typically considered competitive for transferring to Osgoode as a 2L. An admissions officer at Osgoode gave me this information directly. Candidates who need to be in Toronto for medical treatments are the top priority for compassionate transfers. You likely have a decent chance of being accepted with a B average, but this also comes down to who you are competing against and how many applicants there are. While they typically employ the honour system insofar as taking your word for the basis of your compassionate application, providing medical documentation confirming everything you say is a good idea, which should be easy enough for you to do based on what you said above. Osgoode vs U of A for Vancouver recruit
Just curious if any Osgoode/UofA grads here have had a hard experience with getting hired in Vancouver? I’m from BC, but still haven’t heard from UBC/Uvic, otherwise I’d probably choose UBC. Thanks! -

September 2022 - Big Law Salaries?
Just bumping this. I'm a student from a lower-income family background with a high debt load, trying to financially plan 😅 So, if anyone has some insider scoop on whether the major downtown firms are offering lockstep articling student pay increases, that would be really appreciated. Or if non-sister firms are also raising. Probably not, but I'm just curious. 🙂 -

What is the Salary progression like at Global Firms in Toronto?
My understanding is that some of these firms also use a “range” for each year of call once you’re a 4th year associate, similar to other mid size firms where the top of the range is equal to what the 7 sisters pay.- 1

Navigating hirebacks
I agree that if they have offered you a hire back, that it would be bad for them to catch you looking elsewhere. Likewise, if it is far to early before the end of your articles, you need to be careful not to look disloyal. If you have asked for a hire back, and if you are getting close to the end of your articling term, I don't see why the firm would be offended that you are looking elsewhere. (Essentially, "I want you to hire me, but I need a backup plan...). Firms do not expect their articling students to be unemployed waiting for their answer.- 1

Administrative Call to the Bar - Ontario - 2025
The LSO's response it that administrative calls are processed on a "rolling basis." This still leaves me without a definitive answer. From what I have gathered online, the whole process would end 4-6 weeks from the end of articles. -

Where to get precedents?
I'm thinking of doing this too. I have found reaching out to other friends/colleagues who are solos helps. If you're going to subscribe to WestLaw you can find precedents there too. If you do some digging on google, you can find precedents as well. What is the Salary progression like at Global Firms in Toronto?
I had an offer from one such firm about a few years ago, and they were about ~10K under the grid as it was at the time. I know of someone else who was at DLA and they are closer to the grid (or whatever it is, with the new adjustments). So assume you will be close to the grid or slightly below. Good luck. -

UNB vs Western - Mature Student, Environment vs School/Prestige
Relatable, and it is dumb. Overall though, I don't think it's one of those cases where the right choice is the less prestigious one. I'd go to Western.- 1

accepted! 3.5mid and 17low. a couple of years of unique WE and slightly above average softs. wrote part B -

UNB vs Western - Mature Student, Environment vs School/Prestige
Western seems like a no brainer here. It's more "prestigious" than UNB. But more importantly, it's closer to your support network and it has better career opportunities for Ontario compared to UNB. Having the scholarship from UNB is nice, but I don't think this makes up for the fact that it is still out of province with worse career opportunities than Western.
