      How do legal recruiter services work?

      Excellent point. I was on the firm's side of this equation for many years. Practically every recruiter you could name attempts to maintain a "connection" with the major firms by checking in by phone, lunch invitations, etc., etc. Receiving the same candidate from more than one of them is not ideal.

      Finished law school, feeling defeated

      I don't know exactly what you're feeling, OP, but I always felt sad at the end of a term - from high school through to end of 3L. Even though I generally felt I did fine, I'd reflect on how I could have done a little bit better if I'd focused more or sought more help, or how I'd rushed through days because I was waiting for what's next but didn't slow down to enjoy the moments. But I think that's just part of life and a lesson to appreciate the time you have while it's happening, rather than always racing toward the next milestone. If you're complaining about one specific exam and thinking you could have spotted an extra issue or something, then that is silly and you need to move on. Your grades are obviously strong if you're clerking at the ONCA and, even if they weren't, this will not matter in a few years. I haven't looked at my transcript since I started articling and doubt I'll ever need to again.

      How do legal recruiter services work?

      I wanted to add to this discussion - you can work with more than one recruiter but you have to be transparent with them about it. You really don't want multiple recruiters pitching you to the same employer. I previously worked with two recruiters: the first had connections to about 70% of the firms I was interested in, and the second was able to take care of the remaining 30%.

      Opened the portal today to find out my Admission was denied as of yesterday, April 23rd. Making this post for those in a similar situation. Don't give up. It's is not over for you!

      When do second semester grades usually come out by?

      +/- 2 days of when Osgoode grades come out. The schools compete for who is last. Expect sometime during the very last week of May, with a rare chance it may come the week prior.

      Opinions on the Laurier-Sussex Law Degree Program

      You will end up paying way more money, have way more headaches and way less job opportunities if you proceed with Sussex. Those programs are predatory and prey on high school students that don’t know the risks.

      Should I take business law during law school for the bar exam?

      I took a few classes covered in the Bar Exams but not all of them. You'll learn what you need to know from the Bar materials and the exams themselves are mostly about how fast you can find information in the materials anyways. The courses I took helped a bit in that I went in somewhat already oriented to the subject matter. With that said, Real Estate was completely different in the Bar materials than what I learned in class (far more emphasis on the practical and less on legal principles).

      NCA Online learning

      Hello HS20, Good day. Yes, I completed the course. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I did not visit the forum for a long time. After completing the Constitutional Law, I took Admin Law for the Jan-Apr 2024 term, and I completed that, too. The positive side was that the assignment submissions were due every Monday. So I could study on the weekends. But I had to give up all the weekends and evenings on more than one weekday to prepare for the study and assignments. The teacher was excellent and helpful. Answered questions within the next business days. While working full-time, this is doable. I am now thinking of taking two courses in the next term.

      Should I take business law during law school for the bar exam?

      I never understood the impetus to take a specific class for bar prep purposes given how differently certain subjects may be taught by a particular prof. My business associations course was fairly policy-based with little focus on any bar-tested content (academic led). In contrast, we covered a lot of the bar-related "what does the Act require for X to happen?" type stuff in an unrelated seminar (adjunct led). If you have no intrinsic interest, you would have come out of the former class pretty disappointed to find you just put in so many hours to be nowhere closer to your goal of learning the bar content. But I agree everyone should be taking some business law in law school. Even if you're not working in corporate law, you'll likely be running a business at some point in your career.
