Has anyone you know failed a 3L exam? If so, what happened?
IF its really that bad you might get a F. In that case you will have to go through your school's administrative resources. See what the school policy says, go talk to your dean if the policy is not clear. There may be some way to get this rectified before articling, but I imagine it will still set you back in some way. -

How important are grades post law school?
Objectively, they definitely still matter 5-7 years post call. There are numerous employers at that point who still request your undergrad and law school transcripts as part of an application. That said, I wouldn't worry that much in your situation. Sounds like you have landed a competitive opportunity which combined with your UT JD, will make you a compelling lateral to most firms (if you ever do decide to make a move). For now, I would focus on wrapping up law school, getting ready for the bar exam, and dive into articling in the next few months. -

Rejected 2025
You’ll be ok! People on this forum like to make everything seem so intense. And it is, but you are going at your own pace; and me too. The thing is, there’s more to you than an LSAT score and if you really want to pursue law then it’ll all be worth it when you get in one day. Just keep applying.- 2

I'll echo what others have said, and just add that it's actually quite rare for JD students to publish in the OHLJ. If you take a look at past issues most authors are faculty, and some are grad students.- 1

Has anyone you know failed a 3L exam? If so, what happened?
I felt this way after my civil procedure exam. I didn't attend any lessons and only had a little time to study. On the actual exam, I left like a 1/3 blank. Still ended up with a B.- 1

I don't think they'll fail you. I know others that have been in similar positions (where they didn't get much written down/left chunks blank). These people received Ds but not Fs. Also, even if you do get an "F", I think some schools allow for students to do supplementary exams if they fail? So even if you get an "F", you might have a chance to remedy it. See what your school's policy is. -

Has Anyone Navigated GPA Calculations for Diploma-to-Degree Pathways in Law School Applications?
Hey Everyone, I'm unsure if anyone else has been in a situation like this so I'm just looking for some insight on my situation. I’m 27 and have been working as a project manager in construction for over eight years. About a year ago, I made the decision to pursue law school, and I’ve since enrolled in Seneca’s Honours Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (INS) through a diploma-to-degree pathway. I was able to enter directly into Year 3 based on my prior college and university experience. Here’s where my concern comes in: I’m unsure how OUAC will calculate my GPA for law school applications, or if it’ll even be possible to assign me one. So far, I’ve completed one full semester (Winter), and additionally I was granted five transfer credits from a previously incomplete university program. These transfer credits were accepted toward my degree at Seneca, but they appear as “TC” on my transcript (i.e., no grade assigned). I’ll be taking another full course load this summer and again in the fall, finishing the program by the end of December 2025. That means I’ll end up with about 15 graded courses, plus the transfer credits and the 2 given years since it was a degree to diploma program. I know many law schools require at least three full years of undergraduate study so I’m wondering how OUAC will interpret this and what steps I should take. Will OUAC exclude the “TC” transfer credits from the GPA calculation? Will law schools treat diploma-to-degree pathways differently in terms of GPA assessment? And most importantly, will I be able to receive a GPA that meets admissions requirements? On the LSAT side, I’ve been studying for over four months now and feel confident about my progress, so my main concern is just the GPA calculation. -

Has anyone you know failed a 3L exam? If so, what happened?
I am currently spiralling and preparing for the worst on one of my exams during my last semester of 3L. This isn't the typical neuroticism of "I think I failed" where I actually end up with a B -- I know I screwed up very badly on the exam and I didn't get much written down at all. I've been studying for weeks straight and clearly I'm severely burnt out. I've also never gotten lower than a B in law school. Has anyone been in this position before and actually failed? If so, what happened? I have a job lined up for after law school and I'm completely dreading the idea of telling them I failed. -

Publishing my work
Another option might be to publish in the "trade publication" world rather than the "academic journal" world. For instance you can join the OBA for free, find a section that relates to your paper, and see about getting the paper included in their next newsletter. Your law professor, or a lawyer practicing in your field, might have suggestions for other organizations that might publish your work on their websites etc (e.g. CIAJ, some criminal lawyers' organization that I presume exists). If your motivation to publish is at least partly to support your legal job hunt, doing something lawyer-focused rather than academic-focused might be a better fit anyway. As a publisher of last resort (which is perhaps a bit unkind, as I do respect the intiative) there is the CanLII authors program. If you were going to pursue that, I would suggest trying to find a lawyer or professor who is willing to be listed as a co-author with you, because as a lawyer I would be reluctant to put much stock in a paper from a JD student with no vetting/vouching. -

application deferred until final grades received?
my status changed to this today instead of waitlist/rejection/acceptance like everyone else. Basically, it says they will review my application again after I submit my final grades and get back to me with a decision then. I was wondering if anyone else has ever gotten this before & gotten accepted? -

Toronto Big Law Hireback 2025
I am hearing a couple reports now that a few big law firms have told their student cohorts that their decision day will be pushed closer to mid May. Not a lot of data points though.
