When do you guys predict it will happen? last year (2024), they sent out the Rs and WLs on Thursday, May 9th. I thought today (Thursday, May 8th) there was gonna be a discretionary round for sure but I guess not lol

have you also been waiting for discretionary? What are your stats?

I asked the admission office a few weeks ago, and they said we could still hear from them until mid-may.

The wait is kiiiilling me! I already have other options, but need to know what happens with this one so I can finalize my decision.

I’m also still waiting to hear back from UBC, and I applied under the discretionary category. I contacted the admissions office a couple of weeks ago, and they mentioned that offers will be made until June.

until June :/
I asked on March 26th, and they told me mid-May. I hope they let us know sooner than later.

Honestly, I asked them twice, one person said mid-May and another said June, so I’m not really sure what the exact timeline is. Hopefully, they get back to us soon though, the waiting is getting pretty exhausting.

My GPA is kind of low, unfortunately. I'm sitting at 76% with drops, an upward trend in GPA, and a 165 on my LSAT.

Just heard back from the admissions office; they said we should be hearing from them very soon. Wishing you all the best of luck!

It sounds like a discretionary wave is being sent out (saw a few posts on Reddit) – does this mean that any other general applicants have been waitlisted or will be rejected? Or is there usually a wave of general acceptances that comes after? 🥲

Have you applied general? I think you should be able to see a status change in the portal.
My portal still says "Current Status: File Complete - Awaiting Decision". I really need to know their decision so I can close the cycle and move on with my life lol.

^ meant to quote the above

I applied general – nothing has changed in the portal. Just really want to hear back at this point, but every day that goes by just makes me lose hope 🥲

just received the R email from the admission office. Not bumped really as I have another option closer to my home and I was scared of a 1 hour commute to UBC every day lol

For reference:
- Discretionary applicant
- 32 years old, newcomer
- Several years of relevant professional experience working with immigration lawyers and consultants (references submitted)
- Master's degree (GPA 3.8)
- LSAT 153
- Tons of professional volunteering in Canada in just less than 2 years (advisory committees at newcomer centres and the city hall)

Got an R as well, pretty disappointed since UBC was my top choice, and I honestly expected a waitlist rather than a straight rejection. LSAT 162, 78% CGPA, MSc degree, 3 years of work experience, strong softs, and lots of volunteer work. UBC and U of T are my only rejections this cycle. I’m waitlisted at Osgoode and got into all the other western law schools, plus Dal, Ottawa, TMU, and Windsor. Given how competitive this cycle has been, I’m not entirely surprised either. Wishing the best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Sounds like you've had a great cycle otherwise.  You can take some solace in that.  Where are you headed in the fall?

Sorry about the R, but glad to hear that you've got another option.  Where are you headed in the fall?

Thank you! I’m not sure yet, if I get into Oz, that would definitely be my top choice, but I’m not sure if anyone will make it off the waitlist this year. For now, I’m torn between UVic and UCalgary.
