Interested in potentially switching to crim. Is it too late for me to do this?

Currently I've been called to the bar for a little under a year. So far, in my articles and as an associate I've just been doing an "assortment" of law across fields (I guess?) which has included real estate and litigation (small claims and tribunal stuff mostly).

Recently I had a chance to do some defence stuff for regulatory offences which I found interesting. Now I'm wondering if there's a chance I can potentially make a switch to a criminal defence firm despite the fact I barely have any experience doing criminal law. Is it too late to make this switch? I know a lot of my peers would already have nearly 2 years of crim exp under their belt at this point? Is there any way I can investigate the criminal law field in the meantime? Attending court? CPD stuff?
