How Are Translations Handled in IRB or Immigration Hearings in Canada?

Hi all,

I'm a law student currently exploring immigration and refugee law in Canada, and I had a question regarding the use of translated documents in hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).

When foreign-language documents (e.g., birth certificates, police records, affidavits) are submitted as evidence, do they need to be translated by a certified professional, and if so, are there specific standards or associations the translators must be affiliated with?

I came across a resource like here, which claims to work with certified translators recognized by provincial associations like OTTIAQ and ATIO — are those the kinds of qualifications expected in legal settings like the IRB or Federal Court?

Curious to hear from anyone with experience in immigration law, especially regarding evidentiary standards for translations.
