U.S. Firms Lateral

Over the past year few years, there have been a lot of US firms (I'm thinking NY and CA specifically) poaching Canadian talent due to how busy things are south of the border. Can we expect this allure towards Canadian talent to continue in the years to come or is this trend going to end soon? This is with regard to the lateral market. If not, how feasible is it to lateral to a NY or CA firm from Bay Street once an individual is there?

Thanks in advance.

There's always been a trend of Canadians going south of the border, but the last couple of years has really pumped the lateral numbers of the unprecedented pandemic workflow. It is definitely feasible to lateral from Bay Street, but it's heavily dependent on the practice area (corporate is preferred by far), class year (traditionally preferred some experience, pandemic has them considering articles), and the firm you're coming from (7 sisters/int'l firms preferred).

Going by your username, you won't be making this choice until years down the line. Even with this economy, I wouldn't bank on lateraling to the US as your primary goal if you're going to school in Canada.
