Getting jobs outside of Canada?

Can someone who  transitioned from working as a lawyer in Canada to one abroad, specifically the UK, share their experiences on how they found work abroad?

I'm asking specifically about how you got the job abroad rather than the specific steps of getting licensed in the UK.

It's pretty easy. Work at a big law firm. I know a few people that went to places like the UK, Middle East, Singapore, US, etc. during the pandemic. All of them were working in big law firms in Canada.

If you work at a big law firm in a corporate area you'll be recruited directly to work for UK firms. Your firm might also send you on a secondment to a UK firm. You can also reach out to recruiters directly and ask them to find you a position.

Those that I know that did not work in corporate and tried to find work on their own had a tougher go of it and while I know one who did ultimately land a UK job (after some time), I don't recall how he did so.

For the UK, a lot is going to depend on whether you want to be a barrister or solicitor.

If you want to be a solicitor, I agree with Rashabon that it's just working in corporate law at a big firm. There aren't a ton of Canadian dispute resolution solicitors on the other side of the pond, so transitioning from a big law firm in litigation would be a significantly heavier lift.
