Western vs. UNB

Hi guys!

I’d like to hear some opinions from people who have attended the above-mentioned schools.

I was accepted to UNB ages ago and honestly thought it was the only place I’d get into this year and so had pretty well made up my mind to go there, but I just got accepted to Western last week and am feeling a bit blindsided and conflicted. I’ve also been waitlisted at Osgoode but am not really expecting to get in from there.

A bit about my background: I’m from the east coast, I’m an older student, I’m not entirely sure what type of law I’d like to practice (leaning towards government) or even where I’d like to end up really. I’d definitely want to feel supported wherever I go, as this would be my first time in a classroom in a while, so a close knit community/supportive administration and faculty is important to me. Cost is also a factor. I received a scholarship at UNB that brings the tuition down to almost half of what Western’s would’ve, and as this is essentially an early career change for me, that’s definitely something I’m taking into consideration. French is a pretty big part of my life, and so Western’s exchange program with Laval is appealing, so that’s another consideration.

I’ll have to move no matter whether I choose UNB or Western, so this isn’t a factor for me right now. I guess my main questions are: is Western worth double the price? Will it give me the same support that the smaller class size of UNB will likely offer? Any advice is appreciated. 🙂
