I think you need a certain look and persona to pull off a three piece suit. I do not have whatever that quality is.

Those rules are not by any means definitive, but they're pretty safe if you're really bad with matching or fashion.

It is better to be overdressed rather than underdressed on your first day. But you can also just ask. How to dress was one of the questions I asked when they called and offered me my articling position.
