It's not that glamourous. You basically evaluate on day 1 how much the case is worth, then drag things out until the plaintiff lawyer has abandoned their ridiculous demands and is in that range. Then you sign the agreement.

Sometimes it happens quickly, sometimes you have to wait until the eve of the trial, but it's always the same process.
