Effect of Waitlist status on next cycle's application

Hi all, I'm currently 6th on the "Resident" waitlist so at this point I've accepted that I will be re-applying early in the next cycle. I'm wondering if anyone with any experience with this situation can help with something I've been thinking about, does being on the waitlist in the previous cycle seem to boost your chances of getting accepted in the next one? Also when re-applying would it be a good idea to write a new personal statement mentioning this? Thanks in advance!

I see no reason why being waitlisted would boost your chances. The only thing that really determines admissions is how you rank against your peers in a GIVEN year. I'd still mention it in my personal statement to show persistence.
