hi, i've recently been accepted to queens and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to work in vancouver (or BC/west coast at the very least) after graduating? i see here that 2-5% of grads have ended up working in bc in the last few years, but i'm not sure if that's because it's difficult to do so, or just if less people wanted to.

thanks in advance!

Most people are from Ontario, and most people apply for Ontario. Even people who I know are from out of province applied for Ontario work. I think a large part of it has to do with people looking for jobs in Ontario. Anectoedly though I do know some people who are from places outside of Ontario who have been able to find work there (ex: Calgary). But, theres far more opportunities in Ontario that are advertised to Queen's students through CSM so you spend more time applying to those and more networking events and all of that, especially 2L summer careers. So you have alot of incentive to just stay in Ontario.

It likely wouldn't be a substantial barrier, but if you want to practice in Vancouver and you get into a BC school, probably go there.

It seems like everyone who wanted to work in BC had no issue getting a job back there. If you have the ties to Vancouver, it shouldn't be an issue!

yeah, i saw that people wanting to work outside ontario have to do a lot more work on their own since queens is mostly going to be focused on opportunities in ontario, but i think i don't mind doing that since i would much rather live back home in BC near my family than in ontario... but i may change my mind, who knows. if it's possible and not "stupid" for me to go to queens just to come back to BC, i think i would do it lol

It's definitely possible and not stupid. 🙂 It'll just be a bit more effort.
