Hey everyone,

I’m feeling a little stuck so figured it would be good to ask here. I’m stoked to start at UOttawa in the fall! I’m hoping to move out there in early or mid August so I have time to settle in and get my apartment set up but I’m running into a few hurdles.

1. I’ve been looking at places (1 bed/1 bath) for a while but not having a ton of luck. Is there a chance that more rental units open up in the upcoming weeks? Or is it a risk to wait much longer before securing something?

2. Lots of places are wanting proof of enrolment for rental applications but, because first year registration isn’t until mid/late June, I can’t get one. Has anyone navigated this before and have any suggestions? Or do I just have to wait it out and cross my fingers desirable rentals are still available by that point?

Any thoughts, ideas, or advice are welcomed 🙂 It’s a cross-country move for me and I am streeeeeessin’. Thanks y’all!!

For proof of enrolment, contact the admissions office and ask if they can give you a confirmation letter for the purpose finding a rental. Last year they gave me one that basically said I was accepted, paid my deposit, and was set to register in courses on X date.

I looked for a place around this time last year and there were a lot available. What's your budget and where have you been looking online? What neighbourhoods are you searching in? Maybe you need to expand your search a bit, or reset expectations on prices in Ottawa.

I found that in Ottawa, Facebook Marketplace, Rentals.ca and PadMapper were all good websites to use. I know many people who found places later in the summer, but I personally would jump on a place if you find a good one.

I’m not sure if you’ll be bringing a vehicle or want to be commuting but I found lots of places just across the river in Gatineau and they didn’t require proof of enrolment. It’ll be a 20-30min drive to campus from there.
