Any 2L students at a large Toronto firm receive an articling offer yet? Asking for a friend

Do you mean students who are currently summering? The adage that gets thrown around is, unless you burn down the building, you will be brought back for articling.
I don’t know when firms officially tell their summer students that they have offers to come back for articling, but that’s an administrative step. Everyone will get an offer.

They are usually pretty late with it. I wouldn't stress about it.

Some come out within 2 weeks of starting, some within the last two weeks of summer. Very firm dependent. Casually ask one of the outgoing articling students at your firm if you really need firm-specific timelines. But yes, to ease your anxiety, it should be 100% invited back, absent something truly egregious (think, like, sexual harassment or workplace violence or something of that caliber, not because you were just average, or even mediocre, or because you made careless mistakes or whatnot).

They aren't taking a loss to pay you for the summer + all the lawyers training and mentoring you because they have a secret intention to make cuts. They want everyone back not just as articling students but also as associates so they can reap a return on their investment (calculus can be a bit different for non-full service Bay St firms).
