Would you mind expanding on this? Are the numbers too high?

I mean that base salary isn't everything, and one is not necessarily "underpaid" just because one's base salary is less than it would be at a different organization.

Imo whether someone is underpaid or overpaid is determined by looking at base salary vs. average working hours per week (37.5? 60? 80?) vs. years of experience.

I have to of course acknowledge that this is take rooted in privilege, because you have to already be making good money in order to turn down a $10,000+ pay bump because you don't want to work more.

24% of their respondents are GCs? I think they may have a problem with their data. Either they have a very weird response contour, or a lot of liars.

Immediately thought the same. Would also mean the average and median numbers are probably skewed, either due to having so many GCs in the pool, or people just lying.

I can’t speak for other companies, but I work at fairly large company anyone on this sub would recognize, and except for the GC I don’t believe anyone is above 200k, including 20+ year calls.

Hopefully other employers are more generous.

From personal experience, there are employers on the East Coast paying more than that for about 10 years of experience. So I'm surprised in-house lawyers in Toronto aren't making significantly more.

Toronto has a pretty wide range for in-house. I just got an email from a recruiter regarding a position where the posted range was $130-$150K. Obviously I'm not interested, but they were looking for someone with 5+ years of experience.

But generally in big companies, if you have 10 years of experience, you're looking at 200k+ for sure.

130-150k for 5+ years of experience seems like they’re way under market to me. I wouldn’t have left for that as a 3rd year.

I left for more than that in 2014!
