Contact Admissions?

My application to UOttawa has shown as "under evaluation" since Nov. 13th, 2023, and as of this morning is still showing as under evaluation. No other emails or status change to my application in over 6 months. Every other law school I applied to has managed to send me an A, R, or waitlist by now. There is nothing unusual or truly unique about my application (applied general, English JD), so I don't know what kind of evaluation would take this long? Even by UOttawa's administrative standards (described here by another poster as "uniquely incompetent and hostile") it seems like a decision is taking too long? Is it possible to lose an application?

I've got to make a decision in the next few days that involves a deposit at another school, but I would still like to consider UOttawa. Should I contact admissions and ask them to update me? Any advice is much appreciated.

I think if you are still under evaluation, you have a fighting chance. I spoke to someone in admissions a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed that.

I would stay put for the next couple of weeks. These are deciding days! I am also waiting and have the same under evaluation status as you.

Does anyone know when we should anticipate the next wave of acceptances....?

I'm still waiting patiently for the next wave of files to be moved from under evaluation to some other category....

OP, to answer your question, I don't think you should contact admissions and ask them where they are in the process of evaluating your application. I don't think that would be a very good idea.

Agreed. Admissions can be very very slow, but they have their own processes and for some schools those processes take longer. For my application, the "Under Evaluation" status doesn't make me think that the committee is currently looking at my application and I'll hear from them soon, but probably that my application is ready for them to look at whenever they get to it. It could be that they haven't gotten to your application yet or that at this time they aren't ready to give you an official A, R, or WL. Regardless, if you contact them they'll just give you a canned reply saying they don't provide updates on the progress of their evaluations. It sucks, but just hold tight.

Don't worry, I agree and won't be contacting admissions. I can see a scenario where contacting admissions now generates not just a canned reply, but the quickest R I've ever seen (well, not as quick as the one I got from Calgary, but pretty quick anyway). What if we reach the end of this month, I'm still under evaluation, and my provisional A at another school goes final without Ottawa ever having to make a decision? Can I ask for a refund of my application fee? I'm sure it won't come to that, but the longer it goes, the more I wonder.

Then you’ll have to seriously plan on attending the school you have a provisional A at. It’s not rocket appliances!

You cannot. You can try, but they definitely won’t refund you.

Has anyone heard anything in the last few weeks/days? My application has been "under evaluation" since January

Enrollment was due this Tuesday. So I am assuming they have their full class already. the only reason any more spots will open up is if someone doesn't pay tuition fee before the deadline.

Ottawa can take forever. A few people my year got offers the first day of class. One lived in a hotel for a week because she got in day one and had to drop everything to come to school.
