Anecdotally law students hear that you can change your practice area after articling. Can anyone offer their experience of transitioning from a boutique or practice-focused firm to a different practice area after articling?

Anyone who articled in insurance defence for a larger insurance defence firm who changed directions after articling?

ID seems to have a bad reputation based on what I have seen on this forum. How does that change if you are working with a larger Toronto ID firm like Bell Temple, Dutton Brock, Dolden, etc.

People move around a lot, normally to other civil lit places. This year I've seen 8 juniors jump ship from one firm alone and end up at a mix of places.

It helps if you work at one of the bigger firms, in part because they typically have a wider variety of files. It is much harder to move for someone who's just done AB.
