Asking on behalf of a friend - they’re looking to go into family but want a better understanding of what the pay is like. They’ve had a couple offers in the $50k range but want to know if that’s competitive.

I practice in Ontario so I am of little assistance to your friend in Alberta.

However, speak to your local legal recruiters who can connect you with their clients looking to hire and tell you the prevailing salary range for certain experience of calls.

Moreover, established firms or large full service firms in urban centres tend to pay better than small teams in rural areas or legal aid clinics.

$50K seems like an absolute joke of an offer and doesn't make any sense compared to other starting salaries that I've heard (~$90K).
