I'm a latinx prospective applicant and wondering if this might give any advantage in admissions.

URM isn't a thing in Canada.  Your narrative might be shaped by your background in a way that's compelling, but it isn't like the states where you get a flat, measurable boost based on URM status.

There are schools (Dal, for example) that have reserved seats for Indigenous or Black people. However, latinx is not really recognized by law schools as an oppressed minority in Canada, so I echo the above statement: unless you weave your identity into something interesting in your PS, it won’t carry much (if any) weight. And it won’t overcome poor stats.

It's disappointing to hear that latinx isn't recognized as an oppressed minority in Canada, but I'll keep that in mind when applying.

Thanks for sharing that article. I wasn't aware of the recent Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action in the US. It's interesting to see how different countries approach issues of diversity and representation. However, I was specifically referring to the Canadian context - do you think there are any alternative initiatives or programs in place to support underrepresented groups in Canadian law schools?
