Undergrad GPA ( B.com )- 3.2

Graduate GPA ( LLB ) - 2.9

LSAT- 161

Hey,

I am a mom, immigrant, and a law degree holder. Sadly, my degree is non transferable and hence I have to redo my law school in Canada. I want insights into my chances of admission with this statistics  Also my first language is not English .My extra-curricular activity included educating public about importance of fitness and exercise via seminars and free classes ( home country ), free educational classes for children ( home country ), fundraising for homeless people ( home country ), charity donations ( Canada ), volunteering  in community events ( Canada ). Unfortunately, after completing LLB, I migrated to Canada and hence no experience of working under a lawyer.  I worked as a fitness trainer, school teacher, freelance makeup artist back home. I worked as a pharmacy assistant, Physiotherapy assistant, Health care aide in Canada as well.

I commend you on your great experience and work you have done in your home country. It is disappointing that your degree is not transferable here. Unfortunately, the U of A specifically looks at your undergraduate GPA, your LSAT, and your personal statement. Unlike some other law schools in Canada, regular applicants to the U of A cannot upload resumes, letters of reference, etc. so really, the GPA and LSAT are the biggest deciding factors.

If you got your undergraduate degree outside of Canada as well, I would start by figuring out what your GPA would be after you convert it to U of A’s grading scale. Next, I would advise you to rewrite your LSAT. I know it won’t be easy, but I believe you have a shot if you can improve your score. While there is a chance that they will look at your application “holistically” (i.e- by looking at your personal statement), I have to say your odds aren’t great unless you can improve your LSAT.

Both rewriting the LSAT and applying to law school is expensive. You might want to look into some other law schools in Canada that have lower admit stats as well, so you can have some “safety schools” to apply to. Best of luck.

I got in with a B2 of 3.72 and a 161 LSAT. UofA has started to take a more holistic approach to its admission process. I would say that you have a decent shot with those stats and good softs/PS.
