Dropping MBA/JD Joint Degree

I did the 1L recruit last year and secured a summer position. However, I'm planning to drop my MBA and only complete my JD, which means I will graduate earlier. If I notify the firm, will I lose my 2L summer offer? What are the chances of them letting me join as an articling student?

I don’t expect that dropping the mba would impact anything. But if I were you, I’d just ask the student program person or a partner that you’ve connected with at the firm.

Highly doubt it’ll be an issue considering they hired you for 1L (very competitive) and have invited you back for 2L. Though logistically they may just skip the 2L summer and have you join the articling class directly.

The 1L firms are usually accommodating but it is firm-specific. I’ve seen a firm go the other way to your situation: they let a student do two 1L summers after they joined the JD/MBA program.
