Is there a specific province where the work would take place, or specific law schools that are better for this area of law?

The answer probably depends on what you mean by "international arbitration". If you're hoping to represent major companies arbitrating against other major companies, you'll realistically want to be in Toronto (or, to a lesser extent, Montreal / Calgary / Vancouver).

It is probably worth noting, however, that Canadian international arbitration tend to be significantly less "international" than those being run by NY / London firms. The only way anybody agrees to arbitrate under Canadian law or with a Canadian seat is if one of the companies involved is Canadian.

It could also help to look at the faculty for different schools and see if there are any specialists in international law. If you can find course schedules from previous years, you can also see whether relevant courses are available.

If you are really interested in this area, I would recommend getting on the mailing list for the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners (YCAP) - good way to find other arbitration professionals, see where their working/what their law school journeys look like.
