At the risk of inflaming the coversation:

U of T students attempted to measure the relationship between undergraduate major and 1L grades. There's no major difference. And for what it's worth, those un-rigorous arts students had the second highest average, while the rigorous business students had the lowest average.

We can quibble about the merits of looking at one single school and of debating this issue in general, but I only post this to emphasize: there's no significant difference between undergraduate major and law school success.

Interesting that business students had lowest 1L grades and second highest number of offers. Confirms my long-held suspicions that a business degree gave you an advantage in the recruit and that grades are not the be-all-end-all. I suspect that these business degrees are also from top schools like Ivey, Rotman, Queen's, Schulich, etc.

It doesn’t control for whether or not business undergrads were more likely to apply to the recruit (or likely to apply to more firms), so it doesn’t confirm that at all.

You're right, but I hardly know anyone that didn't apply to OCIs even if they were not interested in corporate law. U of T students in particular have a lot of pressure to apply for OCI jobs (and we know at least 50% of the class land OCI jobs). So while not a confirmation. I think it is a factor. One of the questions they ask in these Ultra Vires surveys is if you have a business background when collecting this data, so they must think it matters to some extent.
