MAG Paying 2L student the incorrect rate

A 2L student in my office has been paid the wrong rate since they began their summer term with MAG - Criminal Division. The first paycheque was around 18$/hr, and after they raised this issue with HR it was adjusted to around 20$/hr. The correct wage is 29.75$/hr.

Our contact in regional HR has not provided a satisfactory answer - their replies have essentially been that they will "look into" the discrepancy but cannot provide any additional information. I think my colleague is worried about making a bad impression if they launch any sort of formal complaint. I'm hoping an experienced MAG lawyer can provide some direction.

Summer students are represented by OPSEU, right? They could ask for guidance or help from the union.
