Transfer reasons?

Many schools specify that particular attention is paid to performance in law studies and reasons for requesting a transfer.

Is wanting to be close to home/family a valid enough reason to transfer?

Doubtful, unless that reason is coupled with solid 1L performance. Also, if you're applying to Osgoode to transfer, they have compassionate category so if your above-mentioned reason is driven by a very real need to be close to home (i.e., have dependents, spouse in the transfer city, mental health concerns) then you can apply in that stream and expect them to focus less on grades and more on your compassionate reason.
