LSAT: 171

cGPA: 3.59 (calculated by OLSAS)

B3: 3.86 (calculated by OLSAS)

Only applied to Toronto. Was waitlisted last year (didn't do the optional essay last year). I'm not really sure if the waitlist was because of me not doing the optional essay last year. I did it this year, and I think I wrote a pretty strong essay. I'm assuming its a toss-up given how hard Toronto is to get into? I've been taking some post-graduate classes as well since applying last year, and have a 3.96 in those classes, which I'm assuming helps a bit?

Your stats are competitive enough. Although for holistic schools like U of T, I cannot comment with certainty on your chance. You're right about the optional essay. It's a thing for those who don't have a well above medians B3/LSAT. Writing it will definitely enrich your profile and further distinguish you application from others'.

And yes, taking post-graduate courses may help. Though I'm unsure how they will be evaluated, I think it will ultimately come down to the nature of the program (e.g. full-time or part-time, how demanding it was). Good luck.

The advice from the admissions office when I was attending UofT was for everyone to write the optional essay. I wouldn't describe it as thing for people without good stats.

I wouldn't describe UofT's admissions as 'holistic'.

I think you've very likely to get in but nothing in life is guaranteed. It will probably depend to some extent on how competitive the applicant pool is this year (last year being a notably more difficult year).
