New york bar

I was wondering why Canadians who don't intend to practice abroad choose to write the new york bar ?

Is there any benefit outside working corporate law at the biggest bay street firms? 

I was considering it , but dont see the point.

I don't think there are many that do? Most who do either spent time in New York or plan to spend time in New York.

Being called to any US bar is pretty much a requirement for US business immigration; and a significant asset for Canadian business immigration as well. I see quite a few lawyers going into this line of work, including many foreign trained lawyers. It is less common for anyone else to do it unless their work touches upon cross-border issues or they want to practice law in the US. Some lawyers do it just for the sake of it, hoping that it will make their profile more attractive to future employers and clients.
