Thoughts on the Legal Practice Program at Ryerson? Bad idea?

As far as I am aware, there is still a general belief amongst the bar that articling is the gold standard. To clarify, articling at a place that pays you appropriately and offers you meaningful training opportunities in a real work setting is the gold standard.

In my view, if you intend to obtain a job at a firm or other legal employer after your call, you should exhaust your ability to get one of these articling positions before resorting to the LPP. If you instead know for sure that you want to immediately hang a shingle and become a sole practitioner, it may be a different calculus - but I question whether it is wise to do so and work on your own before ever working with other more senior lawyers first.
