Is it better to live with other 1Ls in first year?

Hello!

I know this might seem like a highly subjective question, but I’m truly impartial either way. I find that I can name about an equal number of pros & cons for both options, however this is just based off what I’m assuming would be the case. For example, is it a fair assumption that having a roommate also in 1L would help in holding one another accountable/on track?

I’d like to hear all sides if possible, thank you 🙂

It is definitely subjective, especially considering finances, but I’m in favour of recommending people live alone when they can. People can be wonderful outside of the domestic sphere, but awful to live with simply due to different cleanliness preferences. It’s also nice to have a space to unwind alone sometimes, or be able to bring guests over and not have your roommate be bothered by it. I don’t know anyone who’s benefited academically just from living with other (law) students, so I wouldn’t rely on that as a pro to do it.
