Vancouver v. Calgary OCIs/Legal Market

Hello all,

I'm currently applying to the 2L recruit in both Vancouver and Calgary. I enjoy both cities, but it is hard to know which one to decide on. Salaries start quite high in Vancouver (after articling especially) but the cost of living is quite high as well. Calgary salaries seem to eventually catch up to Vancouver.

Does anyone have any insight into which legal market might be better to work in long term? I know there are many things to consider (the ultimate one being where I may be happier). Any perspective from applicants or professionals in either city would be great.

The best for the long term is likely to be the one where the market is not largely dependent on the crumbling Canadian energy industry. Calgary is certainly more affordable, but that won't be the case if your job disappears.

Your best bet is Vancouver unless you actually like Calgary better - and it sounds like that's not the case.

I should add that I say this as an Albertan who misses Calgary and would choose it over Vancouver Ina  minute... but it sounds like that's not you!
