Hi all, I am looking to learn about housing in Winnipeg for 1L (I am out-of-province)

How is residence in comparison to renting your own place? (Either near campus or downtown)

How is campus food? There seems to be few options so  I’m not sure if a meal plan is worth it.

Hey! I haven’t heard great things about residence. I would say your safest bet is to rent a place either on Pembina, in Fort Richmond, or a place where you can take one bus to the University without connections (such as Corydon, I believe, which is also one of the more lively places to live in Winnipeg IMO). The transit system is really not great but if you’re taking one bus you should be solid. It’s also nice to be as close as you can to your bus stop if you aren’t used to the cold.

IMO, campus food is alright, but expensive. Someone else can chime in on whether a meal plan is worth it. Best of luck!
