Toronto Associate Hireback

Started hearing of some non-Toronto firms making hireback offers to their articling students.

Anyone in Toronto hear yet?

My firm isn't making decisions until the last week of April.

Most firms in Vancouver have made their hireback offers for students that started articling between May and August 2022 by now. From what I and friends at other firms have heard through the grapevine, numbers are lower than they've been in the last few years on NALP (which i.e. for 2021 and 2022 were almost full cohort hirebacks).

Obviously, this following is based on secondhand knowledge from what students at other firms have been saying and with the important caveat that many firms in this city stagger the start dates of larger cohorts due to PLTC session availabilities, so hirebacks often happen on a rolling basis. Take it with a grain of salt!

That being said, the following firms allegedly made full hirebacks of their currently eligible students: Gowling, NRF, Osler, Stikeman and Lawson Lundell. Farris, Fasken, Lindsay Kenney and Harper Grey did not. A friend of a friend was hired back at Blakes yesterday, but they haven't heard about everyone else yet.

Not sure about DLA, BLG, McMillan, Cassels, Dentons, BJ or McCarthys.
