Finding Rental Robes

Just wondering if anyone knows what we need to wear to the LSO's bar call ceremony. I've never been to one and I don't know anyone getting called in Ontario who needs to rent robes because their workplace doesn't have them.

Any insight or links to people/places renting would be appreciated!

I think the LSO has links to robe shops in the sections of the website that discuss the Call to the Bar. Those may be places to purchase, not rent, though.

Depending on what area of law you’re in, you might need the robes anyway.

If you don't have an employer paying for them and aren't planning on being in Superior Court regularly, I'd honestly recomend https://www.canadiangowns.com/Judicial_s/1822.htm. I bought the dickey style shirt ($29) from the website for my call last year and borrowed the robe from a friend and wore a regular black blazer. A few of my other friends bought the robes ($99) from that website and they were honestly great.

I would have rented from Harcourts but the process is ridiculous (and the price). You have to go in for a fitting, pick them up the morning or day before the ceremony and return the same or next day. I was clerking in Brampton and it just didn't make sense timewise.

Partners at my firm have offered to let me borrow theirs for the ceremony. Might be worth asking, especially if you're a solicitor and will literally never wear them again.
