Can any current articling student at a bay st firm share what 2L/articling students typically wear on a day to day basis? Is it more business casual or casual? Are jeans acceptable?

I assume some offices are more casual than others, but during my summer, I never wore jeans and, on the other end of the spectrum, I only wore a full suit/tie if I was attending something that required it, like a hearing. Wore a dress shirt and dress pants (no blazer, no tie) almost all of the time. The students that dressed more casually often wore something more like a polo and khakis

It varies. Just start with a suit (no tie) or blazer, pants and shirt and see how others do it. I sometimes bring a tie if I'm wearing a suit just in case but any time I have one people comment on it so I just take it off or don't wear it. I was wearing jeans and a sweater for a long time but have moved back to a suit or pants and a dress shirt a couple times a week just because I've been doing more meetings or virtual board meetings and want to dress less casual, but lots of others are still rocking business casual all the time.

I'm in house obviously, but our dress code took a serious turn to the casual side when we all came back to the office. I suspect most places are a notch or two down from pre-pandemic dress codes in terms of casual wear.

Jeans are probably mostly a no-go still except on Fridays.

Suit and dress shirt (no tie) is about as formal as you get unless you’re in a hearing, meeting a client, or 70 years old.

If you want to step it down, you can get away with chinos, a sports coat, and a casual dress shirt just fine with no one batting an eye.

Jeans probably only on Friday but, again, I don’t think anyone will really care if you wear them more often as long as you look professional.

At my office, anyone can wear jeans and nobody would care, but most people still won't. A tie is an extreme rarity.
