Waitlist movement/ When to call it quits?

Hi all! I’m wondering if there’s a point at which people on the waitlist eventually get rejected? Or is it that you get put on the waitlist and if you don’t hear anything at all you just assume you’re rejected?

I got accepted at UofC but I’m still holding out hope for UofA since I’m from Edmonton. When should I realistically give up and begin planning the move and sign a lease in Calgary?

Any advice would be great, I feel super lost. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty much in the reverse situation as yours. Accepted at UAlberta and waitlisted at UCalgary. From the Calgary area. It depends on your level of desired security, but it isn't over until it's over. While your chances are going to be slim, there are often offers made to waitlisted candidates as late as early September. The Calgary rental market is a bit hot right now, but not insurmountable. My personal plan is to hold off on a lease in Edmonton until the bitter end. Having to spend September in an Airbnb isn't the end of the world.

Thank you for your response! Let's switch places and make both our lives easier LOL. I didn't think of an Airbnb for September, but that's not a bad idea. I hope it's not too stressful to move and set up furniture in September if need be. Good luck on the UofC waitlist, I hope you get some good news sooner rather than later!

Out of curiosity have you already paid the deposit for your acceptance, or is there still a deadline that has not passed ?

I paid the deposit in March. Hope that helps!
