Just looking for some insight as the area is pretty new to me.

Should I be considering applying to residence? Or do most people live off-campus as L1s?

Any thought/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Live off campus - I haven't met anyone that lived on rez in 1L. There are university apartments though, my friends who lived there loved it.

If you're looking to save a bit, don't fear living a bit further from campus. A lot of people live south of campus and take the 2/102/106/93 bus in to campus up Western Road/Wharncliffe - that's a very reliable bus route. Also a lot of people live downtown or on Richmond Row. Western actually has pretty decent rental supply when compared to other universities.
