Books for Dummies

Does anyone have any good book recommendations for articling students or new lawyers who are working with or as solicitors? I am about to finish up The Contracts Handbook by Margaret Kerr and I am looking for similar books on business transactions, corporate governance and wills and estates. I really enjoyed The Contracts Handbook because it went through every component of a general commercial contract from a 'for dummies' perspective and filled a lot of the gaps of stuff they don't teach you in law school about contracts (i.e. explaining the difference between dating something for reference vs effective and considerations about the capacity of certain entities to enter in to contracts). Next up is the conveyancing and real estate BC CLE practice manuals.

Really glad I learned about the postal acceptance rule in law school instead of stuff I actually need to know!!!

TLDR: Basically, I am a dumb articling student and I need solicitor how to books. Please leave your recommendations below.

Not a book (exactly) but Carswell's Practical Law is excellent.  Every model agreement / document has extensive commentary on why and how it is to be used, and there are a host of practice notes on just about any commercial law topic.  Highly recommended (for business law solicitor practice).  It is much better than its main competitor.

@Dinsdale Thank you very much. For clarity, are Carswell and Thompson Reuters affiliated (the same). I got a free trial of Thompson Reuter's Practical Law and I have been exploring it all morning.

What about Criminal Law Books?

I have now read Gary Trotter on Bail < https://store.thomsonreuters.ca/en-ca/products/the-law-of-bail-in-canada-3rd-edition-30842669 >

Paciocco on Evidence < https://irwinlaw.com/product/the-law-of-evidence-8-e/ >

Ruby on Sentencing < https://store.lexisnexis.ca/en/products/sentencing-10th-edition-i-lexisnexis-canada-skusku-cad-00599/details >

6 of 14 of Emond's criminal law series < https://emond.ca/criminal-law-series >

Penny on Criminal procedure < https://store.lexisnexis.ca/en/products/criminal-procedure-in-canada-3rd-edition-lexisnexis-canada-skusku-cad-00939/details >

I have found that reading this stuff has made me faster at legal research.

Any other recommendations?
