Provisional acceptance?

At the risk of asking a very dumb question, I have provisionally accepted an offer with a deadline of April 1. I am still waiting on another school; if I do nothing else, and April 1 passes, I haven’t lost my spot at the law school I provisionally accepted, have I?  What I don’t have a clear answer on is if I need to “firm accept” that offer by April 1 to meet their acceptance deadline, which would shut down the other school.

Good question(s) ...

It is my understanding from speaking to the people at the university that I have received acceptance from and OUAC that a provisional acceptance holds your spot from now until July 1st at which time the provisional offer that you have accepted becomes firm.

I would (if I were you) call the university that you have received acceptance from and/or OUAC (if it is a Ontario program) just to confirm!

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Take care,

Thanks so much, this is helpful. I thought about calling the law school but feel a bit awkward highlighting that I am still waiting for another offer, since I may well end up going there (and happily, I might add) and don’t want to start off with them thinking it wasn’t my first choice.  But I guess if I want a 100% answer from them I need to call them. Appreciate your advice.

You won't lose your spot if you've provisionally accepted - the point of the "provisional acceptance" option is to allow you to meet the April 1 deadline, while also remaining under consideration at other schools for a few more months. The answer above is correct - your provisional acceptance automatically becomes firm on July 1. You can also manually convert it to a firm acceptance any time between now and then.

You can contact someone if you want, but the answer is on the OLSAS website: https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/olsas-offers/

You can wait till July 1 and  I think your chance is very good for Queens
