UBC vs. UofA

Having some trouble deciding before the deadline in a few days. Looking to practice Indigenous Law and/or Corporate Law. Any currents students want to sell me on their school? Got scholarships to both, UofA’s offer is larger though.

I do want to practice in AB after my degree. But I guess a part of me wanted to try a different city for a change. Now I’m wondering if that’s really a good enough reason to study out of province. Thanks everyone.

Ultimately if you want to practice in Alberta, your best bet is UofA. Nothing wrong with wanting to try a different city, but your networks will be built up where you study and it's a lot easier to do OCIs and other networking events with Alberta employers if you're studying at UofA.

By the way Indigenous Law is something that law students or law schools invent which doesn't really exist in the real world.

Given your attitude, your lack of career success is unsurprising.

For an articling student you should not only know better, but act better.

Not much happening at the U of A in Edmonton I can tell you that.

Incorrect. You can do corporate law in Edmonton if that’s your goal.

Maybe you should visit the UBC campus and take a walk by Wreck Beach? Do it in February or March when it's winter in Edmonton and spring in Vancouver.

Enjoy the Wreck Beach nudists when you step outside on the first sunny day in weeks in February!

You snipped your quote of him right before by far the worst part of the post in question.

@leftbehindjd

After saying, and I quote, that "... in Alberta an Indigenous Law Practitioner is called a Prosecutor" I hope that you remain left behind by the practice of law.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I suppose it's possible that this could be meant to call out systemic anti-Indigenous racism rather than to perpetuate it. But most people are going to jump to the conclusion that everyone else who's responded to you has, and I can't blame them.

UBC is a nicer campus but the cost of living is Vancouver is much, much higher than Edmonton.

If they meant it that way, you couldn’t be more right.

It was poorly phrased regardless of their intent.
