Academic Reference Letter

Hey everyone,

I have a quick questions about Academic Reference Letters. Its been 2 years since I graduated, I checked back with my university to see the professors who taught me (and know me really well enough to speak on my abilities), the university told me that they no longer teach, I guess they took different jobs. If I reach out to them and they agree to write it, would it count as an academic reference? Even if they no longer teach?

Thanks!
