Borrowing Assets,

Recommended Posts

Hi,

If I borrow an asset worth $500 from a person, but over the next 10 years the asset appreciates to $1.5m. However the asset had long been lost.

Let's say the person only decided to ask me to return the asset once the value had reached $1.5m. If I didn't have that asset, could I legally be required to pay?

What if in another 10 years the asset is worth $150m? Could I legally be required to pay then? What if the lender strategically waited for the asset to appreciate before asking? This may sound crazy but things like this can happen in the world of cryptocurrencies.

Hoping to receive some guidance on this topic. Thanks for reading!
