Can you practice in QC having gone to law school in Ontario?

Pretty much title. Is it possible to become a member of the QC bar and practice in QC if I were to study and receive my JD at an Ontario law school?

Maybe that will help.

I don't know how your French is, but it's important to note that the French Language Charter does not permit people to practice law in Quebec unless they are judged to have "knowledge of the official language [...] appropriate to the practice of their profession."

I'm guessing my case would go under the "Full permit for a Canadian lawyer"?

Sorry, but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding in it's entirety I think. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible or wise to study in Ontario if I live and intend to practice in QC and not really sure where to start.

Not a lawyer yet, but I believe that the permit applies to licensed lawyers, i.e. members of other provincial law societies. So, you’d have to complete law school in Ontario, be called to the bar in Ontario (or another common law province) and then apply for the permit after writing the relevant Barreau exams.

In order to qualify for l’École du Barreau (in order to be called to the bar in Quebec without being called elsewhere first), you need to have a degree in civil law, i.e. from a Quebec law school or Ottawa’s civil law program: https://www.barreau.qc.ca/en/ressources-avocats/devenir-avocat/

Keep in mind too that you could do the Osgoode-Université de Montréal JD/LLB: https://www.osgoode.yorku.ca/programs/juris-doctor/jd-admissions/first-year-applicants/joint-combined-programs/jd-llb-civil/. I’m not sure if this is the only such partnership.

As far as I can tell, it’s possible but complicated and perhaps unnecessarily lengthy; a civil law degree might be your best bet if you’re committed to practicing in Quebec.

Yeah reposting the website was the extent of my usefulness I think, but it looks like @ccq35 has you covered.
