I was offered a 1L Summer Student position at one of bigger firms in Atlantic Canada and receiving a salary of $48,000 annualized. Would it be inappropriate for me to negotiate the pay? Is this considered standard? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it were me, I would not negotiate the pay. You are fortunate to have a summer position at all in 1L, and some law students are doing unpaid internships.

That being said, I have no idea about the legal market our east (I'm in ON).

There's generally no negotiation on student salaries in Atlantic Canada. The bigger firms normally align what they pay to students and stick with it.

That sounds like a fantastic 1L salary, especially for Atlantic Canada. It is higher than the 1L salary I got in Vancouver from what was considered to be a very good employer!
