I am very much into legal research, writing and analysis and would like explore this throughout my first year if possible? Any advice

You can be a research assistant for a professor during 1L (with the possibility to extend your contract for the summer). Probably too late for a full-year thing, but just ask the profs if they need any RAs after your first semester is done. Your school's job portal might also have positions available, so you could just send your application material through the portal.

Find a prof whose area you’re interested in and make a concerted effort to foster a relationship with them. Go to their office hours, ask them questions etc etc. This is how some of my colleagues managed to get these positions. Sometimes, if the prof likes you, they’ll even get creative to find ways for you to assist them with research.
