Bar Fees and Insurance for Associates

Here's an easy (I think) dumb non-lawyer question: For associates, does the firm pay professional fees and/or liability insurance premiums? My understanding based on the wording I've seen on the respective websites for Ontario is that lawyers are on their own for bar fees but I'm unclear about insurance.

Depends on the firm. Most Bay Street firms cover all of those expenses.

If you're an employee of the firm (as opposed to a contractor), a vast majority of firms pay for your professional fees (which usually includes insurance).

I've worked at a few different types/sizes of firms and they all covered the fees. I'm in-house now and my company pays my fees. I know a staff lawyer at a non-profit clinic and the clinic pays their fees.
